Bank robbery

April 30th, 2010, 11:10 am by

Things kind of tend to change quickly around here. This morning Carol was on her way up to the zoo to photograph a story up there when she got the call to change direction and head to the Mission Trace Shopping Center where a bank robbery had just been commited and shots fired in the area.

CSPD officers examined the scene of a bank robbery at the Key Bank on South Academy in the Mission Trace Shopping Center Friday morning. The robber got away but dye in the cash bag exploded as he ran east in the parking lot behind the bank.

A bullet pierced the back of a pickup owned by Pamela Sharratt after a robbery at the Key Bank in the Mission Trace Shopping Center Friday morning. The robber fired at the truck after he attempted to gain entry for a getaway and Sharrat's son,Bobby Jeager stepped on the gas pedal to escape harm.

Bobby Jeager told CSPD officer A. Sanitoro his version of events after a bullet pierced the back of a pickup owned by his mother Pamela Sharratt after a robbery at the Key Bank in the Mission Trace Shopping Center Friday morning. The robber fired at the truck after he attempted to gain entry for a getaway. Jeager put his foot on the gas and the robber shot at him as he fled.

The weekends can get very busy for the photo staff. Here is a small sampling of the events we went to this weekend. From the Colorado Springs All City High School Step Show and Dance Competition, the Colorado Springs Classic Criterium, the Glenn Peterson Track Invitational , Divide Mayoral Inauguration to the ISU Synchronized Skating Championships.

What did you all go to this weekend? Did you shoot great photos? If you would like to share, send them to photo@gazette.com.

Even though he was already elected as mayor of Divide, Spright, was still handing out kisses. The three-legged pitbull mix rescue dog, greeted just about everyone who came to his mayoral inauguration on Sunday, April 11, 2010. He was giving a big kiss to Roni Gordon, who campaigned for him. High school athletes, photography and album covers…a winning combination

April 1st, 2010, 8:04 pm by

Every sports season here at The Gazette we honor the area’s top athletes with a special section that has a theme in an effort to capture the greatness of their athletic accomplishments.  It was my turn for this year’s winter athletes and I really wanted to do something that stood out.  I have been contemplating pairing great athletes with great albums for some time now.  I knew a project like this would resonate if it was done right.  I also knew their might be some resistance (it is rock and roll after all) but I had a gut feeling that readers would respond positively.   By combining photography, these great athletes and some of the greatest album covers of all time I knew I could create a winning combination.  Sure enough with this special section, I have received the more positive response from readers than anything I have done during my time at The Gazette.  I think readers of all ages appreciated stepping back a little in time to ponder how much fun it was to look at an album cover.  The athletes all seemed to have a lot of fun with the photo shoots and now know what people my age have known all along.  That rock and roll rocks!
